I don't know why it's been so hard for me to just settle on a design and run with it but it needs to be done.

Anyone else ever have this problem?

How To Train Your Dragon

I know, I know. "I already know how to train MY Dragon!- Hyuk, hyuk-yuk!"

Now that we got that out of the way-

Dreamworks is getting better and better at this animation thing.

HTTYD was pretty good. It ain't exactly Pixar at it's best- (UP, NEMO, The Incredibles) but it is of that quality. I liked it better than- Cars, Toy Story 2 and maybe even Monsters Inc...Nah...It's about right on par with Monsters Inc.

It's a little predictable at times but the way they pull the story off makes up for it and there are a couple of surprises.
You feel for the lead character as he tries to make his case AND there are some very nice touchy, feely things in there too.

The visuals are STUNNING. I love the design of the characters. They are textured in a way that is quasi-realistic and very appealing.
The animation (motion) is top notch, too.
I'm normally distracted by "hair" in these 3D films (I much prefer "hard hair" over realistic hair on cartoon characters) but this wasn't bad. I mean, I DID find myself staring at it a couple of times but it wasn't unappealing.

Speaking of 3D- as Dreamworks has promised since Monsters vs. Aliens- this film requires you wear glasses so that things poke out at you. Yes. It is a gimmick but it's a gimmick I enjoy- for the most part.
This movie is 3d through and through and it's great- HOWEVER- it's that 3d that is in your face (which I liked) not like UP where after 30 minutes you forget. Don't get me wrong- it's done in a tactful way but it IS in your face. My only real problem with it was getting used to a little distortion in my peripheral. That might be a personal problem though.

That said, I would like to own it so I can watch it over and over again. There is so much I missed out on because it was going so fast and I was so amazed by the backgrounds and overall artistic layout of it all.

I dug it...

Now, to get back to learning how to rig!

Scene 001-

After I finished the the generic Tie Fighter- there were so many paths I could take as far as moving on to the next thing:

Build Mac-Vader's Tie fighter
Build the Cockpit for the Tie Fighters
Finish the X-wing (which I'm close to doing)
Get a final design on the Characters and build them
Figure out how I'm going to animate the CHARACTERS

But the excitement of having a completed ship made me ache to try and see something finished- or closed to it... So I decided to work on the first scene of the animation.

As cliche as it is to break out the Star Wars style title and float it back, followed by the introduction paragraph- it HAD to be done...
I figured I would jump in and knock that out...because it's just a couple of graphics, floating over space and then I have the Tie fly by- which will eventually reveal the Mac Star- It's SIMPLE, right!?

MAN! That shit was difficult as hell to get the timing right.

And that was WITH having an animatic of the scene I created in Flash.

So in this movie you will see the animatic of scene one followed by the actual scene one in progress.

I Got Jacked animatic...scene 001 from kimmygorden on Vimeo.

This is the animatic for scene 001 of my animation for "I Got Jacked When I Bought A Mac" It's still a work in progress-

I hope to put the final up for this scene soon (as I remodel the mac star and straighten out my Tie flyby issues).

As you can see, it's been a hell of an upgrade from the animatic.

I did go with the cliche Sith Wars pull back but added the a title reveal much like I thought would have happened with "The Empire Strikes Back".

You will notice a sort of slow down of the title as it gets further back. Sometimes when I see this it annoys me and then other times I really like it (it makes me feel like the original SW which had little things like that going on in it).
If I change the in-out of the right key frame it would probably fix the situation. I might do something with that.

I like the wording of the paragraphs but they take a little while because it is a lot to read. I've gotten used to it but I may cut a version that doesn't have that in it. People are so impatient these days.

So I'm pretty happy with everything else...Yeah, RIGHT!

Here is what I want to fix:

I've already redone the flyby of the tie fighter- In this scene I had the frame rate wrong but I wanted to see the compositioning.
In the remake you REALLY get a good look at the logo on the wing but I don't like the way it glows so I'm gonna try to amp that up as well.

I've remodeled the Mac Star since I started to compose this post- which really wasn't that bad because I did like what I had created before I just needed more detail (the Mac Star you see in the picture is just a drawing- hee hee).

I plan to add some lights to the Mac Star to flesh it out a little more.

I have some flares in the shot but I'm not sure they work. It might be better to use some lighting and blend the composition better. Maybe shroud the Mac Star in some natural darkness.

Space is boring. I mean, it looks pretty and all but it just sits there.
In my mind I've flirted with the idea of making the blackness of space more fluid- kind of a shifting darkness. Then other times I like how still it is. So I'm gonna play with that.

I got rid of the planets that were in the flash animatic but I might put them in...idunno.

After that I have sound efx and music to add...I played with one little ditty but I'm not happy with it at ALL.

Well, back to work.

Tie Fighter Action

'Sup Crickets!

I'm back in action. There is so much I can post but I'm gonna go with my latest completion...The Mac Tie!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/S2MTvvdAMgI/AAAAAAAAAEI/RfeZo-hJPTw/s320/Tie+desktop.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432207286451843586" />

This here is the Desktop version because it is in fact, my wallpaper right now- HOWEVER there is a problem with it... It's too close to the actual Mac logo.

I actually drew this logo myself so it's not exact but it's pretty damn close. It's "Hey! Take it down or we're gonna sue you!" close.

When I complete this thing, I don't know HOW Apple is going to react-
They could be cool and see the video as the parody that it is...or they could be a bunch of assholes and try to strong hand me. I can't leave that to chance.

I mean- the song I don't worry about because I'm telling a story that happened to me. It's personal and it's my opinion.
But I want to be careful with the images I put out there. Mr. Lucas will be cool I think but I'm not dissing Star Wars.

So this was the time to make a big decision:

Do I complete the animation with the real logo and wait until I hear from someone at Apple before I take it down?-

OR

Do I do the animation with an original logo and hope people connect the dots enough that the video is still funny?

Believe it or not- I was heavily considering option one, with the idea that I would have a backup animation with all the logos switched out AND I was designing things so that all I had to do is click a button or turn off a layer so the Mac logo would be gone...

But then I said "forget it" when I really realized how much double work I'd be (and was) doing.

The best thing to do would be to make a symbol that people would instantly think was the Mac logo although it is not.

I thought about adding an extra bite out of the apple but went with this:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/S2MclD6EB3I/AAAAAAAAAEQ/z3dTsk8Tqt4/s320/tie-+NEW+mac+logo.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5432216998568527730" />

See!? TWO LEAVES!

That oughta do it. I got the greeble situation handled- I'll have to render in sections and composite. Which I'll do with part one of scene 11 tomorrow.

It just took some organization and planning- which is becoming more of a necessity as I go along, eh?

2. You'll note I've dropped the name Ponomo Studios (logo change too)- as I've dissolved the company sometime ago and I've grown out of the name. Hell, I only ever produced Stems and Seeds under that name anyway.
Working on a new name and I got a couple of ideas I like that I will have to investigate in the future. No hurries.

Oh. And here are a couple of pictures to see you off. I've been working on a style inbetween these two shots.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SjHNM290qdI/AAAAAAAAAD4/dH0bE6Rpqzs/s320/Color+Test+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346279853462432210" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 180px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SjHNJkZ-V9I/AAAAAAAAADw/gOerfw89AnA/s320/BW+test+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5346279796940625874" />

The Riz

I'm thinking heavily about The Riz today.
I think I better let you know who the Riz is-

John Rizzo.
The Riz.
J-Rock.
The Rizzinator.

He's one of the baddest editors we have at Maury- And Maury's shop is loaded with some badass editors- myself included for all ya'll that don't know! Whassup!

The Riz is more than just an editor- he's an AWESOME graphics dude.

Johnny Rock and I bullshit about a lot of things: Star Wars, cars, politics, conspiracies, cakes, farts- but over everything else we both have a love of the visual and often share notes on what's going down out there in the graphics world.

During one of these conversations we were lamenting on how we never really have the time to do something RIGHT.
You know, really pulling the best out of your work without a time constraint or a producer sitting over your shoulder- looking at their watch and giving you 3rd grader suggestions on how to improve something.

I'm talking about REALLY taking in a piece and making sure each part of it ROCKS-
"...You know, like spending a day trying to get 7 frames to look right..." is how The Riz put it.

And now that I'm on hiatus from Maury I find myself in that position!
(The reason I hadn't posted in a while is because I was pulling 70-80 hr weeks getting the Maury Show ready to make their big move).

So it's been a week and I've dedicated a great deal of it to doing this animation.
I organized a bunch of notes, drawings and files to streamline production. Then I began an outline and storyboard.

During storyboarding I learned that I prefer a looser form of the process where I have a folder filled with lined paper and post-it notes as the frames.

I didn't say it was pretty.
I probably like it more because it doesn't feel like I'm filling out a form as I do it. It's for my eyes only so it doesn't HAVE to be pretty- I just have to get it done so that I can move on to the next phase which is a "compositing-board".

In this I kinda break down HOW I'm gonna try to pull off that frame of the storyboard. For me it's a half step between storyboard and animatic. Some might consider it an extra/unnecessary step but I get a lot of ideas at this stage I'm finding.

SOOOOOO...

I'm working on this so's I can at least get a bit of the animation done- I decided to focus on scene 11 as I really KNEW what I wanted to happen.

Now, I did a little animatic for this scene as a test:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v8.nonxt5.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Dae2645dbb542a024%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1330046455%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D3D2A8AA99A0871BFD7D39ED0096743F9EDECAB37.12BA5ED4A3D85E0B685E1CEC405D00BF8FF5AF93%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Dae2645dbb542a024%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DnGIz9I7iF0gt-z4-thNoOYHOPz8&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

I got a turret in there and a stand in X-wing and everything- :).

I didn't like how big the bulk was inside the trench so I stopped and decided I needed to go BACK and redo the panels I used to make it (that is also why you don't see completed panels on the edge of the trench).

Sigh.

Having gone back though- I really like my panels now. I like them but my computer does not.

I tried to render a scene with them and the computer just said- NO and crashed. :(.

It's an old computer and if it doesn't get it's soup in the afternoon, it's cranky.
Honestly- the greeble-age is just too much for my desktop to handle and my tablet (which is Vista) doesn't run my old version of Max.

I'm thinking I'm going to have to break down the greeble shots and composite them in After Effects.

Here is the scene with the new trench UNGREEBLED:

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v22.nonxt7.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3Db285e3ca4b0362b8%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1330046455%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D6E4D49D6AEB03B135A52C741AAF411F47C11F76.17EF85AF43B1740F600725EBD5C544EFF3992A3D%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3Db285e3ca4b0362b8%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3Dzh8BuYT4LAiGSx9sfmla5T_GReo&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

All of this revelation has led me to remember what The Riz said and I realize I now AM spending all day- SEVERAL days on just a few frames. Kinda like a puzzle.

Next I'm gonna try to greeble it and see what happens- AFTER I post this (you know, in case old cranky decides to crash under the weight of my creative power!!)

"Freestylin'!"

...or "Going Commando!"

I mean, getting at your art without any rules, baby!

That's usually how I go at creating something.

For example:

I'll pick up my pad and I'll say- "I'm gonna draw Spider-Man!" So, I'll start drawing him and while I'm doing it, I'll decide to make him shoot a web. Then, I'll be like- "Oh yeah, he's on a wall too!", so I'll draw that in and so forth.

Same with a song.
I'll decide to write a song and I'll tap out something with an instrument (usually a bass or a drum) 'til I find something I like and then I'll start adding to it.

It's the rush of the moment I like- It's like you are creating something but the spirit of the creation is guiding you through it's completion.

You don't do that with an animation.

That is- You don't say "I'm gonna make a cartoon about a cat trying to catch a mouse" and then just sit down and draw it.
I mean, you COULD try to do it that way but you would probably lose interest after a while because the project is too big to be handled that way.

You have to PLAN a motherfuckin' animation.

Now, this is all common sense- I know. But you don't know how many times I've started to do an animation just like that.

All the cartoons I've ever completed were were written out and storyboarded first.

This one is the same- SORTA. I have everything plotted out- I haven't written it out shot for shot though, so sometimes I will be tempted to jump ahead and try to animate something without having storyboarded it.
This is stupidity- because I don't know what I'll need. Which means I'll be over animating- I mean, like WAAAAAAAAYYY over animating. Wasting time and resources-

I figured this out when I started trying to animate some scenes over my death star- just because I was so excited that things are working with it so well.

I then went back and storyboarded a section of the battle that is supposed to happen on the end and putting shots together was so much easier. I will post that later when I have access to those files and the internet at the same time.

So- I will storyboard more and thanks to writing this little blog entry- I kind of realize maybe I should write out the beats of the video as well.

Tattoo Challenge

A friend challenged me to write a song using the lyric

"C'mon baby, C'mon. And put a glow on it.

Then the big thing happened.
I have always wanted to do a black and white animation in that Frank Miller style- sort of like this commercial by Psyop.

So while messing around with Max I figured out how to do it!!!
This is a major success because not only am I really close to nailing down a style
for the video- I will also be able to save render time!!!

I also figured out a way to use the panels I created for the trench on the surface as well!

Here are some samples of the Mac Star trench and one of the...1, 2, 3, 4- 8 panels I've built so far.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdgefLFiKdI/AAAAAAAAADI/0dvTikW-VHY/s320/FM+trench.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321036480639019474" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdgeXBzrzKI/AAAAAAAAADA/DhdVc1Ed_QA/s320/fm+trench3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321036340709280930" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdgeRDN2iiI/AAAAAAAAAC4/MYdLEdG-WaQ/s320/FM+trench2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5321036238008257058" />

FLEX!!!!!

The Bulky Panel Hurdle

Okay-

I laid out the panels and played a little bit.
Lemme say- THAT SHIT WAS HARD TO MOVE AROUND...

But I knew that was going to happen, right? I said so in my first post.

WELL-

Now I'm thinking that there has got to be a way to create the walls and turn the greeble off to animate.

The other thing was- when I saw the panels together- I was like: "Oh SHIT!- These are much bulkier than the Death Star's panels! I'm a failure. A FAILURE!!!"

Here is what they looked like:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdAHnJvnLQI/AAAAAAAAACQ/iXa_sEaJI0A/s320/surface.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318759529136467202" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdAH0onZ3kI/AAAAAAAAACY/IMY4Xkpsu1U/s320/surface2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318759760761839170" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdAIDYOgNKI/AAAAAAAAACg/MTpuSdzSgJQ/s320/surface3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318760014060467362" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdAIRnYzb0I/AAAAAAAAACo/Rkp00PJN-rE/s320/surface4.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318760258648371010" />

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/SdAIck8MJ6I/AAAAAAAAACw/TYM6kqde454/s320/surface5.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318760446970046370" />

I was playing with different rendering techniques already- :)

A little silly I know but-

I was pretty unhappy with the bulkiness of the situation. :(

Then- after a day and a half of reflection, I decided to watch the run on the Death Star, again.

The Death Star was plenty bulky, yo.

See how these hurdles hurt you? I was messing myself up.

I'm going to continue with the Panels but I think there is a way to make them to where I can turn the greeble effect off- It would be worth it to give it a shot. And it seems to be a problem that can be solved with organization...

Yeah. The way to deal with them is to fix it- or realize you can't fix it and press on- the answer will come eventually.
Still- hurdles suck.

I'm kinda having one right now as I build these panels.

My dilemma is- I'm building like 16-20 different panels- I will then lay them out like tiles- repeated and rotated so that they look like the surface (and trench) of the Death Star.

Now, each panel has hundreds (if not thousands) of polys because they are all greebled.

When I put them all together- they are going to be one MASSIVE slowdown to my system because I'll have all these polys to calculate...

Greeble actually has a mode that allows you to turn OFF the greeble effect especially for the purpose of being able to animate easier.
That would be great EXCEPT for the fact that I'm going to have 16-20 panels- remember? Repeated and rotated. Some of them are made up of multiple greeble settings.

Hmmmmm...

WAIT! I GOT IT!

I'll make a pseudo surface (one with only a few polys) and place the panels on top of it. THEN, when it's time to animate- I'll HIDE the real surface and animate over the pseudo surface.

Awwwwwww, YEAH!
Maybe this blog IS helping my process!

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/Sc1rkTShuiI/AAAAAAAAACA/kfObwfeBMfQ/s320/panel+3.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318025006391867938" />Here is an example of the panels.
This one is where I'm really getting
comfortable with greeble's effects.

Other panels have more...uh bumps?
Like this:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/Sc2D5XnT8gI/AAAAAAAAACI/SePqg9uubMQ/s320/panel+2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5318051756609106434" />

OMG! Cool Idea!

So.

I've been working on my tiles- Which I could TOTALLY Greeble in 10 minutes, but I want some of the shapes to look original and I also kinda want to pay tribute to the work that went into the actual Star Wars film, so i continue to labor at it.
More about that later*.

The whole time I've been working on this video, I've been thinking of... well,
Some of you may remember that old Star Wars arcade game from back in the day?-

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 256px; height: 192px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/ScwgGVhVjSI/AAAAAAAAABY/5nGPaLW1YF0/s320/01-star-wars-arcade.png" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317660553245986082" />

Yeah. THAT arcade game.

Well, you may remember that as you move up in levels, the Death Star trench run would get harder and harder. At first you would have pratically zero opposition.
Then there would be more turrets lining the walls of the trench.
THEN, there would be these bars that you had to manuever through as you flew down the trench and dodged the barrage of asterixs that came from the line of turrets on the wall.

Like this:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 240px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/ScwhSkyJa2I/AAAAAAAAABg/g6sA0Gg0ZOI/s320/SW_Arcade3+Trench.gif" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317661863013084002" />

Now, I remember when I played the game- I thought it was an abomination to the real thing- but it did make the game hella fun!
So all this time I wanted to incorporate those walls in the Mac-Star.

I'm already going to be stepping away from the real thing because I'm going to have to line the floor of the Mac Star with some Neon tiles in order to explain the Apple-esque glow around it's center- so I thought- So what if I add some walls for the ships to fly over?! It'll add more action to the whole thing.

But I could already hear people going:
"Dude! What's up with all the barriers in the trench! That wasn't in the movie!"

But I wanted to pay tribute to the game somehow. Hmmmm...

So I was doing (REALLY ROUGH) sketches:

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 175px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/Scwmdu90mWI/AAAAAAAAABw/tFujT5_aJWA/s320/Mac-Star-Drawings-2.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317667552283105634" />

This is the Mac Star- that I will rebuild- You can see it as it is now on the Sith Vicious Myspace Page

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 216px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_5wBcZP7D9Sw/ScwnP563aLI/AAAAAAAAAB4/uBp60wGOunU/s320/Trench+Idea+copy.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5317668414216956082" />

And HERE is the IDEA!

What I'll do is that when Sith goes to use his "targeting computer" he'll look into the visor and "see" the video game as the graphic.

Then the graphic will have him level up to level 3- and the walls will have turrets and barriers appear.

This will surprise Sith- and he will look out at the ACTUAL trench and then he will see the actual walls and turrets in real life.

It's PERFECT!

So I will be moving on to working on that animatic after I get the trench done.

Now I have to decide at what point that will happen in the video.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://kimmygorden.blogspot.com/2009/03/omg-cool-idea.html' title='OMG! I mean, nobody's reading this thing and I'm just writing in it to feel like I'm working on my projects more than anything else, right?
It isn't like I need ANOTHER distraction- between being a husband and the father of two- Work, Netflicks, Facebook AND Xbox- I GOT enough distractions.

You saw that? I just got REAL on ya'll! Ha! Ha!

Of course, since no one is really reading this I'm just doing a little self therapy.

So anyway- a couple of years has gone past- I have completed a project or three- mostly videos edited- and I haven't blogged a lick about it- to no ones loss.

The other thing about blogs is...you gotta have one that looks worth a damn if you're gonna be posting about graphic art and all that.

That means that you have to spend s decent amount of time designing it- which is fun as hell- don't get me wrong. And then teaching yourself the latest CSS tricks to put it up the right way and all that- I could spend a week just laying it out!

THAT'S the problem- That is a week I could have spent actually working on a project as opposed to designing a blog that no one is going to read anyway.

So I was teetering on shutting this blog down.

What drove my feelings home was when I was researching how to build a Death Star surface for my latest project and I stumbled across this blog:

http://animwatch.animationblogspot.com/

I could totally see where this dude was coming from (and I didn't even put a tenth of the work into my blog that he did his.

At the same time I was saddened this site, that had not only showed me how to create my Death Star surface but also seemed to be chock full of cool little animation tidbits, wasn't going to be around anymore. I mean, I would have been a reader if I knew it was around...

So the question weighed on my mind- To blog or not to blog?

I thought about the projects I'm working on and the ones I have in mind- and about how maybe someone somewhere might stumble upon my crap and maybe learn something.

I was leaning- but then I put it to Dave who said:

"I think blog entries can help nudge you to get
something done and
gives you a yardstick showing how far you've progressed...it
also
can provide feedback from people reading it. I've got
several things
that I'm working on that have been made a lot better because
of
suggestions."

I guess he's right.

I decided to blog BUT only under two circumstances:

1. My blog would have to be PART of the project process. It's going to be a yardstick and a DEADLINE.

and

2. It has to be reader friendly.
Meaning I have to post regularly and the post has to show progress or have something interesting for the viewer such as a tutorial or sketches and designs or what have you.

So that's my deal. If I can't keep that then I'll just kill this blog and keep on truckin'.

My first goal is that a week from now I will have my 16 different surfaces built for my Mac Star Surface.

The other thing is I ain't gonna spend a week redesigning this site- I'm just gonna sabotage some premade template.

Well. Maybe I WILL make a jpg. to go up top eventually...

Happy New Year ya'll!

I've been doing a LOT.

Working on a paper cut of The Underground Up with Lizzo.

Got some tunage for Sith Vicious in the works as well as firm ideas for the Jacked video.

I've been practicing my 3D modeling skills like a mad man and have made a lot of headway towards better game modeling. I got Medim rigged. Finally.

The animation (action) is not mine but I thought it would make a good test- you may recognize it as the ballet.BIP that comes with 3Dmax. I'm still working on my animation technique.

I'm glad this bad boy is rigged but it ain't pretty. There are still a lot of anomalies that bug the shit out of me- there are a few problems in the crotch area and the back of the leg (That little turd looking thing at his butt is actually a section of the skeleton that, for some reason doesn't "hide" with the rest of the skeleton- don't pay attention to that- I'll remember to hide it next pass).

His arms consist of more shoulder than bicep- which is how I designed him. It was my plan to animate in a different manner so when I use a generic animation like this it tends to look weird. It makes me want to rethink the design but I gotta stick with my experiment.

The "face" is NOTHING like what I want the end result to be like- THIS IS JUST A TEST.

This was just a quick animation I did in FLASH- imported into After Effects for resizing and exporting- imported into Avid in order to add the "glow" and "scanlines" effects and then imported back into Max as a texture (where I made it self luminate) and rendered the animation. Total time: about 15-20 minutes.

I'm VERY happy with the process. There are some steps that I will be able to skip- (going into After Effects AND Avid aren't necessary as they both have glows and scanlines) but I wanted to cover all my bases.
I will work to tighten things up and finalize a few things now that I know my process is more than a theory.

I will work with the toon shader to actually get the look I want- this shiny thing is the default setting- I may try to work with Illustrate since I am familiar with it.

I have a lot of plans for that monitor face. It's generic now but I'm going to be working on a way to make that face look scary- cute- weird- all kinds of stuff.
What you see here- like I said, is just the most basic of animations. The eyes blink at random (well, I did plan the one on the end) and the mouth doesn't move.
I may even loosen up the rigidity of the monitor so it can stretch a little and therefore add a little more to the expressions.

I also need to work with the real textures and add the "knobs" for nipples I'm soooooo looking forward to.

I have a lot of work ahead of me.

It's been a busy week.

Got a lot done this week but nothing to really show- yet.

Let's see.
I found a site to help me bone and skin Medim. Lynda.com I think it is. It's pretty cool. So I've been working on that.

I also wrote another song for Sith Vicious and believe THAT will be the song for the first video maybe- Or maybe I'll do "Def Star Rising" as a warm up since it's shorter.

Anyway the new tune is called "I got Jacked when I bought a Mac". Poignent and based on a true story. I can't wait to upload it- gotta record the lyrics though.

I even got a great start on another song for the Sith. Look for that bad boy too.

For now, the long awaited still from the underground up. My ideal path for animation is to build in 3DMax and Flash- and then composite and effect in After Effects and Avid.

Also note that I've added big speakers as ears whereas in the original drawing I had the speaker in the belly. This is a weak attempt to make the creature (I'm calling it "Medim" for the now) look more like a radio than a Television despite the fact that his face is a full fledged monitor. Ugh. I feel like I'm one of those bad producers I have to work with from time to time BUT DAMNIT, SCREENS ARE VISUAL!

I was trying to name it Medium but in the original file I accidentally called it Medim. So that's the name.

Next will be the texturing-

I've also textured the Olion robot for Smuggler's Run- but I'm kinda rethinking the model a little bit at the moment.

Work and Work.

Okay, Okay.

I still haven't put up the title sheet to The Underground Up. That's because I keep forgetting to make a one frame still of it. HOWEVER-

I've been tasked (I kinda tasked myself) to do an animation that represents how large record companies have been given the okay to own other record companies and how that has kind sprawled into this 4 way (soon to be 3 way) split of the music industry.

I decided to represent the businesses (both large and small) by one type of creature. The bigger bussinesses will be- well, bigger. And meaner. And more vicious. etc.

My first Sketch was a round blobby type creature that looked kind of monster-like.

Then I got the idea to have video monitors instead of faces since we are talking about media companies- (even though we really mean record companies)and the other drawings followed. Actually, before these sketches I made a few pages I really liked in a notebook at work.

What I will have to figure out is whether I want the screen to actually open up when they eat each other- or should I just make them shove the "food" into their screens and have the victims vaporize in an electric ZAP (which is cheating in a lot of ways)

Anyway. After the idea to do the screen face came up- I went on to develop this drawing a little more.

Note the notes to myself about making the screen shake and stuff. I don't know how I'm going to do that but I'm trying to challenge myself and do something interesting to look at.

That graphic for From The Underground Up IS on it's way. HONEST.

Slip me some skin!

Here he is... One version of Olio Robot anyway. I designed one with one eye as well but basically it's the same model.

This badboy weighs in at 2527 faces. That's 527 more than I was trying to spend but still okay. I just really wanted to stay under 3000.

HOWEVER. I WILL need to texturize the HELL out of it to make him look any kind of mysterious or menacing or anything. Not that all Olions are mean- but this dude looks almost cuddly. Must be the eyes.

One thing I like to do with my models once I get them kind of built out is to throw a parameter on them like Taper or Bend. This makes the model not look so stiff. A litle curvature in the lines always helps.

I will start working on the textures on this guy to scare him up a little as I get a chance.

Next I will put the graphics up for Underground Up- I just didn't get to render a page today.

Computer blues and bright spots

So, I logged onto the blog spot tonight- excited to upload some stuff and spent well over an hour trying to get the shots loaded on the Kimmygorden.com site in order to link to it. But for some reason nothing I tried worked. It just DOES NOT want to load these stills onto the site.

Lesson #1- NOTHING is EVER as easy as it should be when it comes to computers.

Working with a computer is like a scene directed by Stephen Spielberg. Something always goes ridiculously wrong- complicating everything. Now, I LIKE Speilberg movies and I like computers. I'm just pointing out a fact.

Oooooooooh. The original files were too dang big. /shrug.

Alright. Let's try this with the almighty BLOGSPOT baby!

I'm designing a game called Smuggler's Run (tenatively). Currently, I'm doing it on my own and hoping to pick up people along the way- I even have some stuff lined up but won't make a hard core press for help until I get a clear line of how everything works.

I'm using the Torque engine by Garage Games and I plan to pick up the MMOKIT at My Dream RPG

Anyway- as part of the game. The Player will be able to play one of several races of characters. Two of the races in Smuggler's Run are Robosapians.
I decided to build an Olion robot as one of the test meshes for the game (I need to learn the best way to import meshes into the game).

Okay. I started out with some sketches.
ALWAYS have some sketches first before you model- unless you have many days to model and don't care how many files you rack up.

I tend to ignore that rule but then always head running back to it after about an hour and a half of false starts.

Olion robots are from the "planet" Olio. A world run, built and inhabited by robots. They are mysterious because no one has ever been to the planet Olio and it's more of a fable than anything else- with the exception that there are alls these bots with the Olio mark on them all over the place. Even the robots themselves have no recollection of being on the planet.
Other Robosapians are those built by living creatures. They have a code of ethics and everything- Olions do not. Therefore no one trusts Olion robots and other robots pretty much get worked.

Anyway- I want the Olion bots to be more "organic" and weird than the other robots- which will be bulkier and more in line to what they thought robots would be in the 50's.

I leaped at the Olion bots first 'cause I like to be weird. However- I wasn't really designing anything weird by just throwing some models together. So I went to the sketch pad and started drawing bulky bots as opossed to what an Olio robot would look like. I still have a ways to go before I totally cut loose and do some weird stuff but I keept going and came up with the sketch with the little fish monster looking robot.

I wasn't really happy with it as far as being weird enough but decided it was a good start and started to model parts (as I understand it- I will be loading characters as parts so as to give the player a chance to customize their robot).

As I was building I made a third sketch to kind of hash out some different head styles and where I was going with the arms.

Next post- the model that I built.

Sith Vicious Is In The House

This is Sith Vicious.

Sith Vicious

Dig the tunes. Feel the Force.

I've decided to animate the video for the song "I'm Coming".
I've started a very loose stroyboard- but it's the type of storyboard that's for my eyes only. As I start to do more serious sketches and details I will put them up.

I've also got more sketches from Smuggler's Run- that will come out this week as well.

I figure it will be easier to throw up sketches (which I've been doing a lot of)and stuff if this blog is my main page so I'm making those changes now- Hence the experimentation with the look of the blog- expect some changes 'round here. Like the posting of weekly sketches.

My comedy troupe is going on a hiatus as a couple of key members have other projects they need to work on. So that means more time for me to work on my own personal stuff.

Also later this week I will put up a sample of the graphics I'm cooking for Liz Moore's awesome documentary "From The Underground Up". It's a film about the underground Hip Hop scene and it's gonna be good so watch for it.

So long story short. I got more time to dedicate to my personal projects again- that means this blog will get some more loving. :)

In the meantime. Christmas. New Years. A strong commitment to the gym. That big weird thing at work. I joined a comedy troupe. My wife's birthday. Work going on hiatus.

A lot.

But I'm back.

I've been doing a lot of side projects- as usual.

I think I need to drop the Batman animation though. It just seems like a lot of work for a character I don't even own. Not only that. I could get one of those "cease and desist" letters. I doubt I would in this case- but why waste the time when I could be doing something in my own right.

Speaking of that- I've been at Atomfilms door a couple of times trying to straighten out what I'll have to do in order to start making some more Stems and Seeds stuff. As soon as I get word I will put it up here.

So- I've slooooooowly been adding to my "Unbearable Truth" bears library so's I can animate them better/easier. That's the shot above...One of them anyway. Click it and you will see.

Also on the agenda will be adding this blog to my web site good and proper.

Look for it.

The Open is in...

So, you thought I backed down. You thought I gave up.

Think again, sucka!

This is a frame from the top of the open for the toon.
I probably could have picked one that doesn't cover the title as much but there you go.

Now to come clean- I hate it. There's a lot I don't like about this open but I ain't gonna go out blabbin' what I don't like about it because I have resolved- VERY RELUCTANTLY- to move on in the interest of getting it done. Much the same way a writer will finish a first draft.

I will say that I am very happy with how the title graphic came out. It's damn near PERFECT.

When I started this lil' toon the feeling was to be as true to the book as possible. And since this is animation- I can afford to be closer to what the book is, unlike live action things- (Of course there are some people who have proven it can be done like my man Robert Rodriguez on Sin City and whoever did Hellboy knocked it out of the box).
However- I am NOT Klaus Janson!
Add the fact that I am buildning a lot of this stuff in a 3D program and just know there are going to be some sacrafices/changes.

Some of the changes will be (in my opinion) for the better. Like the Title Graphic. On the original book they used a different font which I could most likely find online with a little diligence (and I did do some looking) but in the end I felt it wasn't strong (thick) enough for the screen. So I went with a thicker Swiss font.

Other changes are going to be sacrafices like The Batmobile. Idunno HOW the hell to build that thing Mr. Janson drew but I built something I think keeps the feel of the original. We will soon see.

If you wanna see the all 10 seconds of the open so far use the link or right click here:
http://www.kimmygorden.com/OPEN2Final.mp4

This is a much smaller version and it doesn't have Audio 'cause I haven't figured out the best way to make this visible on the web yet. Trust me though- there is lightening and what not and it sounds really- lightening-y and everything.

Hang in there- I am moving ever closer...

I'm Back baby!!!!

I was sick as a motherfucker last week. So much to do so little time...

Anyway- I would like to take this opportunity to welcome my boy DAVE into the Blog fold. You can check his site in the links section. I can guarantee you that his blog will be funny as hell and brutally honest. He might even have a conspiracy or two thrown in there- Well, at least until the feds crack down on him.

I've got another blog in the works as well- but I really need to get an assistant or clone myself or something.

Wouldn't that be COOL? You thought I wasn't lookin'!!!

Yes. I am still on the Batman thang.
This past week I did little of nothing but edit for the Maury Show. However just before the editing onlslaught I started working on the open for the piece.

I learned that animating is going to be slightly more difficult than I had bargained for because of mesh complications. I made 3 animations of Bats doing his move into the Cover Pose but I am happy with none of them.

So the forced backing off I had to do thanks to RL was probably good. I shall return to that animation ASAP.

Got inspired by watching a cartoon called NARUTO on CN this weekend. Looks really good. I kinda liked the story too- even though it had your typical- verbate everything that is happening- anime style, I was into it.

I'm going to start using that technique in my everyday life as well.

"I will not sit here and ponder this move any longer! Well, not so much a clip as it is 60 frames.
Lemme tell ya 'bout it first.

I got the bones goin' and linked them to a Character Studio skeleton- just like I said I would.

Took me a lil' bit but I did learn how to quickly get my vertices mapped to bones correctly (MAX has a paint feature now where I can paint which points are controled by what) the problem was that being a perfectionist could lead to me spending unecessary hours bouncing between this bone and that bone with a certain set of points.

When I was finally satisfied with the skinning- I made up a punch move that I will have to use later and came up with the animation I've attached here.

I did this in 30 fps. Which is ridiculous really. I know we have talked about this before and I will go with 15 fps that will convert to 30 easily enough.

The final for this project will most likely be an AVI as I will use AVID and After Effects when the time comes to finalize so I'm working with this in mind.

To get the drawn look I used a cartoon filter- with shadows- I then took the frames into FLASH and used Trace Bitmap on each one to make that flat look even sharper-

Then I went through and cleaned up the anomalies that come from my shoddy skinning and poor modeling (remember this is really so that I don't have to out and out draw every panel).
This is also the stage at which I will draw facial expressions and the like (vis-a-vie the Breakfast Monster's eyes on my site).

The technique is tedious but I like the outcome. The animation itself leaves a little to be desired- The punch is supposed to be slow at the top and then fast when the hit comes in and I think that's reflected- BUT it's not supposed to have that camera jerk in there. I don't know how that happened.

I also need to revisit the skinning on the hands because his thumbs won't go down plus his fingers seem a little thin. I will do that but I don't know how much it matters for this little clip here- there will be a LOT of other things going on-

Superman taking the blow. Batman's cape blowing behind him (I'm debating drawing it or having MAX's new Cloth feature do a little something something first- You know I have to at least TRY that :)...) Snow will be falling. AND I have to do something with the background.
I also need to animate a mouth for my man, Bats to give it a little more feeling and not seem as robotic.

Animation-wise I could do some more squashing and stretching too- but I haven't decided how far from reality I want to go- seeing as this IS a cartoon. I should go VERY far but then again I kind of like how this is looking- It's just a TON better than what I had for Stems and Seeds. Which I was VERY limited by how big the final file could be (2mg). It's just great to be able to use so many frames to do a move- still...I should be careful of file size.

I know I want to letterbox the final too. So I need to think on that as well.../sigh.

Next I will work on one of two things:

The open sequence- which I need to replot sorta but it only has Batman, lightning and the title- possibly some building but that remains to be seen.
Using MAX to make that cape work.
I'm leaning towards 1 but 2 would help with 1 considerably... decisions, decisions.
Well. there it is...

Oh yeah, I think this letter just became my latest entry to my blog!

If you wanna see the file that I sent with it go to:
www.kimmygorden.com/batman_punch_Scene_1.swf

Inspiration

Inspiration:

Came on two fronts- My wife and kids got me GLUE by Irvine Welsh- Whenever I get the Welsh in my veins I get to writting.
So maybe some of it will end up here. I HAVE thought about "blogging" a story- and I have one in mind but- well, you all know about me and my "irons" and all that fire. Although I have been pretty good about keeping this site going- So, lay off damnit!

The last time I read a bunch of his books I wrote "These Strange Creatures"- which no one has seen- and a little after that I started "Stems and Seeds"- you can find them on Atomfilms.com

The other inspiration was Sin City. I finally started watching it and Kudos to Robert Rodriquez for having the sack to really stick to the vision. Sin City is like jumping in to a really cool pool of water on a hot summer day: It's shocking at first- but once you get used to it you never wanna get out.

If I can make this Batman animation look THAT fuckin' smooth- then I'll be real happy.
If you haven't seen it, do so. Or better yet- read the books and then see it. Frank Miller comics are in a category all their own.

Tank Treads and the lost art of being a Man

Now,
I got the project swinging by digging into those old files and seeing just how fucked up they were and exactly where I fucked up and am now trying to rectify the situation.

In all actuality- I really like some of what I was doing but can see where I lost interest with so many things not going as imagined from the "giddyup". I would point them all out to you but that would involve pictures and quite a long essay.

In short- I am going to have to lighten up on my "tweens" but at the same time give them life. Meaning: If an appendage seems to bend a little funky- or wrong (unrealistic) it's okay as long as it's a: cartoony (exaggerated) and b: not up long.

If I focus on my close up stuff and pull a Anime/Hanna Barbara technique of animating what needs to be animated and making the still stuff look REALLY good- then I'll be alright.

Add that theory to the simple assed storyboards I cranked on the airplane and I MIGHT just get an animation done...MIGHT.

That would be one thing- I still have the Timothy Greene game/book in the works- did a really nice picture for a Timothy sprite. It's lookin' good.

In other news...

I watched like 5 episodes of "Six Feet Under" last night (god, I love HBO) thanks to on demand- I only got the last two episodes to go. If you ain't seen it- you need to. It's pretty down to earth on a lot of things even though back in the day I had a work peep tell me he didn't want to watch it because he thought it was "more of that anti-family, liberal bullshit- where everyone has a problem and everyone is gay."

Yeah, I know...Whatever!

Watching it lead me to, once again, think about what it is to be a Man and what that means.

First off, it's beginning to strike me odd how people can dictate how a person is supposed to act and feel simply from which set of genitalia they were born with- but a great deal of the generalizations are true.

For example: that wicked, crazy-ass sex drive that we carry around.
For whatever reason- it seems that it's power has been seriously underestimated by society.

I mean, I'm not trying to justify anyone's infidelity or any other kind of sick ass act done in thename of lust BUT if you lock a buncha dudes in a cell eventually, at least one of them will try to fuck the others. Think about that- disturbing, isn't it. Looking that beast in the eye- but it is there. That base demon swirling around only held in check by a man's upbringing, moral background, religion, civility- or whatever you want to call the rusty chains that hold us together in social order.

I know, I know...women get horny too- but we are not talking about getting horny. I'm talking about the male sex drive. This is totally different from getting horny- a great comedian once described it as "the difference between shooting a bullet and throwing it". If you think it's the same thing then you don't know what I'm talkin' about.

All in all though this has little to do with being a MAN. Controlling yourself- and being decent is being human. Being a MAN is a much taller order.

When I say "MAN" I mean those guys that sacraficed without fear, that protected unto death their loved ones and were completely humble while doing so BUT I also mean those dudes who worked themselves into an early grave and rarely heard a thank you on the way down.
Those, who were in totally loveless relationships for the sole fact that they were good men who could provide.
Those, who gave and gave but were never recognised for doing so until they were in the ground.

No one has it easy. No matter what genitalia you're weilding when you pop into the world- but after watching a little SFU- I was kinda thinkin'- What has happened to the art of being a MAN.

Dudes that opened doors, gave up seats, championed honor so much they would live and die for it. Why did people lose love for seeing that kind of person?

Some jack-ass *cough*BenShapiro*cough, cough* might say it's due to feminism- but that's not it. Feminism is about the liberation of women- by my definition so far- a woman could be a MAN too! But I'm just speaking about the males 'cause I can relate to what goes on in a males mind better (being one myself and all).

No- we just don't give a motherfucka credit when they come with that decent, upstanding- "I'm going to treat you as I want to be treated"- respect initiative because now, you are just "weak" thinkin' like that, son.

Also, men are taught very early on to seperate themselves from their feelings. A great example of this happened one time when I was on the beach.
There was a little boy of about 4, his older brother of about 9 and an even older sister of about 14.
The 9 yr. old was teasing the hell out of the 4 yr. old and pretty much making his existance hell. Razzing him and slapping him playfully in the head. The younger boy cried until his older sister came over and ran the 9 yr. old off.
THEN she turned to the 4 yr. old and told him to stop crying and being such a baby. AND HE DID IT.

No doubt, this kid will grow up to be able to deal with all kinds of hasslin' with no prob. Of course when he can't articulate his feelings when he's 21 everyone will just toss it up to being a man.

The role of the father in the home has been marginalized as well but on that front I think society is starting to realize how important a father figure is-

In the end- I felt for some of the shit that the guys went through in SFU- some of it brought on themselves- some of it just for being men. I felt like they touched on a lot of reality in that show-
If you haven't checked it, maybe you should.

...oh yeah, they do women pretty well too.

Working and Working...

Well, That book by Dave Sims- "Cerebus and the art of Self Publishing" is proving to be difficult to find. However, I will find it.

About a year ago my hard drive got up and said "Screw you, Dude! I QUIT!" and it stopped working. I FINALLY got to pull a bunch of stuff off of it including a mess of Batman files that I had given up on. (another bonus is I located a CD that I had backed everything up to so the files I had lost are now found).

THEN, I was...slick enough...to install a little 3D program at work so I can use my spare time to crank on that instead of bullshitting in forums.

I just gotta get focused. And when I feel the project coming together again things will snowball.

I think the problem is I've lost touch with where to go next and what to do... I gotta find my damn path again!

Europe, Porn and Cartoons

Well, I am back and ready to dig in... But first a little bit about what I did over the summer (so far).

The past 4 weeks I have been in Germany and Belgium (my regular summer jaunt with the family to see in-laws) and we even squeezed in a couple of days in Paris, which is beautiful and poignant all at once. Such a mix of beauty and history- a deep history that we, as Americans, don't get to appreciate. I mean, buildings that were built in 1113- Choppin's grave yard- and things like that. I saw Seraut's final resting place and yeah, Jim Morrison too.

I read Ben Shapiro's book, Porn Generation And How Social Liberalism is corrupting Our Future and it really started to make me think- but not in the way he would have wished.

It is hard to describe how disturbed I am that someone with any decent amount of education can use the word "tolorance" as a derragatory statement and that "live and let live" is a crime.

Don't get me wrong. The guy did make some valid points and observations but they are so couched in this extremist right wing mentality it's scary.

Both the Right and the Left are out of fucking control, to put it honestly. Someone need s to call them out for it.
America needs to call them out for it.

My trip to Paris, well Europe in general was very enlightening on this- And I need to put that into words, I know, because I keep thinking about this every waking moment.
Some idiot will read this and say- "If you love Europe so much then go live there, Frenchy!" totally missing the point and thus, bringing my observations down into the black vs. white arena where sports styled politics reigns supreme. Score one for the Conservatives!

It's like both sides are pushing and pushing and they will do anything to get their point of view across no matter how much destruction and chaos will come of it.

The world is small and getting smaller; tolerance and "live and let live" may well be our best tools for survival.

I digress...

I also saw Melinda and Melinda on the flight. It's done by Woody Allen and stars Will Ferrell. This movie sucked. I mean, it sucked in that Gilmore Girls kind of way.
You know- where everyone is witty and has a snappy comeback for everybody elses snappy comebacks. The only difference is that they all weren't speaking at a hundred miles an hour.
And the acting. UGH! Will is the best thing in the film.
I normally like Woody Allen's stuff too.

Okay. Back to the project.
I picked up on the Batman animation again. I need to get Ponomo Studios back into the swing and that would be a really good start.

On the plane I drew some story boards for a two good scenes.

I also started a more concrete mapping of a book for The Unbearable Truth. The next step there I think is to start building the characters and buying Dave Sims book on self publishing.

I continue to work people...

The Beginning

SO. Here we are.

I'm an artist. I've done a lot of stuff and I have a lot of ideas. This blog is my first step towards getting these new ideas done. A journal of what is going down and how it's going down.

Odd that I would start this today as tomorrow I will be going to Germany for three weeks- there I will not have access to a single computer- this is a good and a bad thing.

It is my hope that with this blog I will be able to see and focus my efforts.

Until then feel free to check out www.Kimmygorden.com
There you will see that there IS the beginning of something-

I got a lot of ideas, man.
